Under 21 Derby Finishes All Square Between Liverpool And Everton

Liverpool and Everton shared a point each as the Barclays U21 Premier League rapidly reaches a climax in the coming weeks.

A victory for the Reds and their status at the top of the league would have looked increasingly convincing. Chelsea breathing on their necks with two games in hand and now just four points behind isn’t the ideal position if Liverpool want to take the league on their way to a Championship triumph in the knockout stages.

Everton meanwhile don’t have too much to play for at this stage of the season. They now sit tenth, which is only six points off the Championship qualifying spots, but with only one game left that task is left impossible for the Toffees.

They gave Liverpool an excellent game though and perhaps a reason to why they should be up challenging near the top of the league – replicating the success that their under 18 side has endured this season.

Jordan Lussey put Alex Inglethorpe’s Liverpool side ahead after Lussey got on the end of Joao Carols Teixeira’s inch-perfect cross.

Watched by first-team boss Roberto Martinez, Everton were level with just five minutes remaining. Magaye Gueye’s cross was headed towards goal by Ryan Ledson and it seemed as if Ibou Touray got the final touch on it before it entered the net.

With only a few games remaining, and the majority of sides finished their league campaigns, the Championships are starting to take shape.

Fulham and Southampton are currently in the qualifying positions but it seems as if Manchester City and Manchester United, one point but two games behind, will have something to say about that.

Sunderland could even capitalise on City and United if one half of Manchester is to collapse at the business end of the season.
